One of my most traumatic comedy memories is the first time I did Beat the Frog at the Frog and Bucket in Manchester. A gong show where the aim is to reach 5 minutes, I made it to 04:58 before being booted off the stage. It haunted me for months.
Thankfully, my second time round went much smoother. Not only did I beat the 5 minutes, but I had a really enjoyable gig and met some lovely comedians. I also got to see my good friend Matthew Wheelwright (or Matty Wheely, as he is known to his friends) absolutely smash his 5 minutes. Sadly, I didn’t win the clap-off (in fact, I’d say I came dead last), but it was still a great experience.
